The Bugs Won't Let Me Be
When I was young I was sporty
Happy go lucky and free
Now my old age should be golden
But the bugs won't let me be
So I frequently visit my doctor
And I am taking a lot of his drugs
But I just don't seem to be able
To drive off those pesky old bugs
Now when I want to go dancing
I get a big creak in my knee
I just can't do the old shuffle
Cause the bugs won't let me be
I can holler and shout and be angry
And kick up a terriable noise
But nothing I do is sufficient
To scare off them tough Ites boys
Burs, he just keeps a slugging
And Arth, he gets in his licks
While Nur, is his constant companion
With a bag full of real dirty tricks
When I used to go venison hunting
I could shinny up any od tree
NOW I can't climb up a ladder
Cause the bugs won't let me be
Yes. old age is creeping up on me
But I have a mind that is sound
So common sense tells me from now on
My hunting will be on the ground
I'll wander around through the forest
But I won't be climbing a tree
For I can't get to the first limb now
Cause the bugs won't let me be
I find there's no use complaining
So why should I kick up a storm
When I got a woman to sleep with
If only to keep the bed warm
For when I raise up on my elbows
I get me a pain in each knee
So we just lay there and keep talking
Cause the bugs won't let me be
Oh, we might do a wee bit of petting
Or answer a sigh for a sigh
But we finally drift into a slumber
And dream of the days thats gone by
We dream of the frolicks we had then
Of nights that were easy and free
Dream.Dream that's all we can do now
Cause the bugs won't let me be
There's no use for us to be griping
And it does us no good to be sore
For we're just a jolly old couple
Who can't cut the mustard no more
Now all you good folks pay attention
For most of this story is true
So do what you can while you're able
Cause these bugs will be coming for you
Now the cornbores got into my shoulder
The bolweavel got into my knees
The wood ticks are bothering my elbows
NO, the bugs won't let me be
