How To Celebrate Christmas

The Scripture does not tell us
just what day Christ came to earth
So they set December the twenty-fifth
To celebrate His birth

Yes, they set December the twenty-fifth
And called it Christmas Day
It's a day of gifts and giving
And it should be a day to pray

It should be a day of reverence
And praise to our living Lord
But some folks never mention His name
When they sit at the festive Board

They'll pinch and save to get a stake
And when Christmas Eve comes around
They'll go pick up their little hoard
And they'll go out on the town

They'll put on their store bought satins
And jump into their car
And instead of going to the Village Church,
They go to their favorite Bar

They'll guzzle whiskey, beer, or wine
Till they are inebriated
Which means in term of Barroom slang
Completely saturated

But before they pass completely out
And lose complete control
They'll tell you how things should be done
And of Uncle Sam and his dole

Oh, they'll give you their opinions
And to make their points they'll shout
But when it comes to Christmas
They've forgot what it's all about

It may be a husband and his wife
That comes to a corner Bar
Maybe they come from the house next door
Or maybe they come from afar

They'll sit at a table and sip their drinks
And watch the Go Go girl
Or maybe they'll step out on the floor
And give the thing a twirl

A dance could be wholesome amusement
Somewhere in the country side
But it just isn't right a barroom
With a Go Go girl for a guide

No, it isn't right for folks to sit
And watch them twist and twirl
Cause John the Baptist lost his head
Because of a dancing girl

This couple came to dance and sing
To sit and guzzle rum
While their children waited in dispair
For old Santa Claus to come

Now this is no way celebrate
The birthday of our Lord
We all should be more reverent
And be of one accord

Christmas should be a merry day
To parent, girl, or boy
A day to give deep from the heart
A day of peace and joy

A day to celebrate His birth
And praise the Lord on high
But too many people celebrate
And really don't know why
