My Puppy

Poems by Roscoe"Old Man"Solley

Just Life

We come into this world
Through no fault of our own
We are tutored and taught
Until we are grown

We are tutored along
By a parent's kind hand
We then learn to creep
We soon learn to stand

With help and direction
We learn how to walk
And in a short time
We learn how to talk

We are taught and directed
By parents home rule
And at age five or six
We are sent off to school

Where a new set of rules
For laddies and lasses
Is put into effect
As we enter our classes

We learn how to read
And we learn how to write
We take our books home
And we study at night

We are taught to comply
With the old Golden Rule
To be pleasent and kind
As we travel through school

We select certain courses
In our advanced education
Then study real hard
To complete graduation

Some think graduation
Provides enough knowledge-
They go off to seek fortunes
While some go to cllege

Some of them prosper
Their fortunes are made-
While others keep ploddin
But don't make the grade

So life is just a gamble
As most people know
The haves and the have nots
Wherever you go

Time passes onward
Our youth is behind
These facts we ignore
And pay them no mind

We awake to the fact
That we are growing old
We still keep a reaching
For that pot of gold

We find that this life
Is just a long race
Our energy is gone
We must slacken the pace

And so life goes onward
And it comes to pass
We are citizens now
In the senior class!

Let's get out the good-book
Before it is too late
And study our lessons
And again graduate
