My Puppy

Poems by Roscoe "Old Man" Solley

For those of you who remember this poem was inspired by the energy crisis of the 70's

Just a Little Gas

I wish I had a little gas
To pour into my car
I'd take that old Ford on the road
And head for places far

Of all the fun I've ever had
In summer, spring, or fall
Those rambling rides in that old wreck
I love the best of all

Now here I sit so angry
I nearly split my britches
Every time I think about
Those Arab Sons of Bitches

We gave them steel, we gave them grain
And really makes me boil
When they show appreciation
By cutting off our oil

Now Uncle Sam's a nice old guy
He's mild and very meek
When someone slaps him in the face
He'll turn the other cheek

Now I'm not sure, not very sure
I like this attitude
Since all the countries he has helped
Are being very rude

So dear old Uncle Sammy
I'd like to say to you
It's time you shake them leaches off
And paddle your own canoe

'Cause we don't really think it's right
For you to grind their axes
While here at home we work and toil
To pay for it in taxes

Now these are things I think about
As I sit here on My ass
And wonder where I'd really be
If I only had some gas
