He staggered into the bar room
And went stumbling up to the bar
He looked like a man who's rambled around
And been to places far

He said to the man behind the bar
My money is almost gone
Just give me one small drink friend
Then I'll be moving on

The bar tender looked him over
And he said,"Man don't be funny"
If you want to tip a tumbler here
You've got to show some money

The stranger laughed and staggered around
And he weaved like an old bar louse
Then he told the old bar tender
To set up the house

The bar keep then went into a rage
And he let out a real mean roar
Get out! Get out! you lousy bum
Or I'll throw you through that door

The stranger laughed and clowned around
And he made a comical bow
Then from his jeans he pulled out a roll
Big enough to choke a cow

Then he turned to the raging bar keep
Whose face was grin and pale
He showed him the roll then asked him
If the place was for sale

The bar keep's face turned milky white
And he looked like one in a daze
But still he signaled the waitresses
To come and bring their trays

The man didn't look like a business man
Or a prosperous man of means
For he wore a coat that was slightly soiled
And a pair of old blue jeans

No he didn't fit the picture
Of a man of power and wealth
But he ordered drinks for everyone
And every one drank to his health

Then with a flourish he tipped his glass
In a second his drink was downed
Drink hardy folks. Drink up said he
And we'll have anouther round

And so we drank to his health again
Just as we had done before
Then he tossed a century note on the bar
And ambled out through the door

The bar keep looked a bit amazed
Then he said, "Oh, he"ll be back"
But the stranger ambled out to the street
And left in a Cadillac

He didn't say where he came from
And no one where he's gone
He just jumped into that Cadillac
And then he was moving on

Now this story has a moral
That all good folks should heed
When sizing up the other guy
Don't judge with too much speed

Don't judge him by his get-up
To conclusions do not jump
You cannot tell how deep a well is
If you only measure the pump.
