My Puppy

Poems by Roscoe "Old Man" Solley

Ramblin' Man

I am just an old time country boy
Who has wandered far away
I was born up in the moutains
In the state of old PA

I have been to New York City
And I have seen the Golden Gate
But I can't forget my birth place
In the good old Keystone State

I have seen a lot of places
As through this land I roam
But Nothing quite so pleaseing
As my Pennsylvania home

Back there in those mountains
Is a girl that I adore
With the help of God I am going back
To see that girl once more

I tell you she is a beauty
And she has looks to spare
She is just a little girl
With a ribbon in her hair

Her name is nothing extra
But I am right here to tell
She is the flower of the Keystone State
The state I love so well

I have seen a lot of of country
I have been from town to town
And there is a lot to see
Before I settle down

I think I'll just keep rambling
Until my money is gone
Then I'll just put up my thumb
And keep a moving on

Then I think about that maiden
Who is waiting in the hills
My thoughts keep turning homeward
My heart with rature thrills

When I think about that little girl
I know I have mert my fate
And I must travel back there
Back to the Keystone State

I know that she has been waiting
I know that she has been true
I know she is dreaming of me
So this is what I will do

I will pack my grip tomorrow
And I will be on my way
Back to the hills and valleys
In the state of old PA

And when at last I meet her
I will take her by the hand
I will lead her to the parson
By the altar we will stand

He will read the ceremony
And we will say "I do"
The ring goes on her finger
And my roaming days are through

Now I am back in Pennsylvania
I am back in my home town
I have got myself a woman
And I'm going to settle Down
