Santa Claus

When Ma was just a little girl
I've often heard her tell
How Santa Claus would come around
And ring his Christmas bell

He'd have a lot of toys and things
Up on a great big sled
His beard would be both big and long
And his suit be red and white

And he would not come till after dark
When the children were in bed
And he had a team of reindeer
To pull that great big sled

Their names were Donder and Blitzen
And Comet, Cupid, and Dancer
And he had one called Dasher
And two called Vixen and Prancer

And with his sled and reindeer
Through the country he would glide
He would climb up on each house top
And down the chimney slide

And he'd bring a big sack with him
Filled with candy, nuts, and toys
There'd be something for the older folks
And for little girls and boys

She would tell of Christmas morning
How they would arise at dawn
And hurry down the old stairsteps
To find he'd come and gone

She'd tell how happy they would be
Just to find he had been there
Then she'd tell how dear old Grandpa
Would lead them all in prayer

Now my mom is a story teller
And I love to hear her tell
How Santa Claus would come around
And ring his Christmas bell

But I think there's something fishy
About the way he got in
For his clothes would be all sooty
And his beard be black as sin

No this does not fit the picture
Of Santa Claus I've seen
For he is a tidy guy
And is really neat and clean

And anothter thing that bugs me
Is the size of that ol sack
Just how could he come down the flu
With that thing on his back

Could be my Grammy and Grandpa
Would fall asleep and snore
And while they're making all that noise
He'd sneak in and out the door

But makes no difference how he gets in
He brings alot of cheer
When we celebrate on Christmas
Which comes but once a year

Then Pa and Ma will tell us
To be on our good behavior
And not to forget it's the birthday
Of Jesus Christ our Savior
